Unit Objectives

  • Know a few facts about the history of our modern alphabet.
  • Know that there are 26 letters in our alphabet which are divided into two categories – 6 vowels and 20 consonants.
  • These letters can be mixed and matched to make 44 sounds!
  • Know which letters are vowels and which are consonants.
  • Know that vowels can make at least two sounds.
  • Be able to say and hear the difference between these vowel sounds.
  • Know which sound relates to which letter.
  • Know why we need vowels in the English language
  • Be able to spell ‘vowel’ and ‘consonant’
