Unit Objectives

Know a few facts about the history of our modern alphabet.
Know that there are 26 letters in our alphabet which are divided into two categories – 6 vowels and 20 consonants.
These letters can be mixed and matched to make 44 sounds!
Know which letters are vowels and which are consonants.
Know that vowels can make at least two sounds.
Be able to say and hear the difference between these vowel sounds.
Know which sound relates to which letter.
Know why we need vowels in the English language
Be able to spell ‘vowel’ and ‘consonant’
