Objectives

- Be able to hear the difference between these short and long /y/ sounds
- Be able to hear the two /y/ sounds at the beginning and in the middle of words
- Know what the magic ‘e’ does to the short /y̆/ sound.
- Be able to hear the short /y̆/ and long /ȳ/ sounds in text.
- Remember key pictures and words ‘y̆ellow’ and ‘ȳMCA’.
- Know how to write capital and lower case ‘Yy’. Now that this is different from a hand written’y’.
- Be able to differentiate between sounds /ă/, /ā/, /ĕ/, /ē/, /ĭ/, / ī /, /ŏ/, /ō/, /ū/, /ŭ/, and /y̆/ /ȳ/.
- Learn a few interesting facts about yellow.
