Vowel lesson: long and short /i/

Objectives

  • Remember that ‘i’ is a vowel.
  • Know how to say the short and long /i/ sounds
  • Be able to hear the difference between these short and long /i/ sounds
  • Remember key pictures and words ‘ ĭgloo’ and ‘ īce’.
  • Know how to write capital and lower case ‘Ii’. The computer type for these can be confusing. I teach A screen shot of a computer AI-generated content may be incorrect. so the letters look very different.
  • Be able to differentiate sounds /ĕ/, /ē/, /ĭ/ and / ī /.
  • Learn a few interesting facts about igloos.

Tip: dyslexic students find differentiating between /ĕ/, /ē/, /ĭ/  and / ī /. Expect this to take some time to learn.
